Some (older?) content still won't display properly on 21:9, though most of the ones i've tested work fine: Stranger Things, Hateful Eight, GOTG worked fine. It's Netflix's way of countering piracy i guess? Netflix app can stream at 4k which is a huge jump vs Chrome.Įdge browser is apparently the only browser that doesn't see a resolution cap. Taking screenshots isn't possible on the Netflix app, but taking screenshots in the Chrome version is likely possible which could explain the streaming quality cap.

Hopefully the problem is fixed for all regionsĮDIT: Chrome browser is limited to just 720p streaming. This fix applies in the UK version of Netflix for me. Stranger Things seems to be a 2:1 aspect ratio (18:9) and it now scales up as it should, instead of black bars surrounding the show. Either way it was a hassle.īut as of recently, it seems Netflix was finally updated to properly support 21:9 monitors now :D Alternatively, you could override the default version of the Netflix app with an edited version downloadable off a random site. Subtitles would get cropped off which was inconvenient. There were some ways around the app issue, such as changing the desktop to tablet mode and force cropping content for 21:9. You could use the chrome version with the ultra wide aspect ratio add-on, at the expense of reduced streaming quality.
All content seemed to display at 16:9 (regardless of original content aspect ratio). Unfortunately, black bars would still be in the way for the Netflix app. The Netflix app for Windows is required if you want to stream at the highest quality.
